FAQ 1 - What's the deal?
In a nutshell, players subscribe to the Death Pool at a cost of 50 pence per week. Each player picks three celebrities and one famous animal. If one of those celebrities or animals dies during 2007, that player picks up the entire syndicate cash pot and the syndicate continues. The winner will be given the opportunity to select a replacement or leave the syndicate. At the end of the year, 50% of any remaining pot goes to charity and the rest will roll-over for the 2008 competition.
FAQ 2 - Isn't this a bit morbid?
I say it's no more morbid than Fantasy Football is athletic. However, if you disagree, I apologise.
FAQ 3 - Where / How do I sign up?
First check the rules. Then email your four potential "snuffs / snuffettes" (three human, one animal) to entries@inspiringthecabbages.co.uk, ensuring that you don't select the same candidates as any of the other players by checking the deathlist.
FAQ 4 - When does it all start?
The competition starts on 1 January 2007. Deaths occurring on or after this date will count. You may still enter after this date - see FAQ 6.
FAQ 5 - How / When do I pay?
The Death Pool Treasurer (Vicki Cox) will collect cash or cheques. You may pay in advance or on a regular basis, but please be aware that your membership will expire if your subscription fees ("subs") are overdue by more than 21 days. Anyone wanting to electronically transfer money can do so - please contact subs@inspiringthecabbages.co.uk.
FAQ 6 - Can I join in after 1 January?
Of course. You'll have the disadvantage of having to select celebrities that haven't been picked by others but, as long as you pay your "subs" on time, that's fine. You should note that you might only be eligible to win part of the pot if you've only been playing for part of the time.
FAQ 7 - Can I leave the syndicate?
You can leave the syndicate at any time but you will (obviously) not be able to win any cash after you leave. Your chosen celebrities will then be available for other players to substitute into their lists - see FAQ 8.
FAQ 8 - What if I want to replace one of my celebrities?
You can make unlimited substitutions throughout the year. However, you will have to give three weeks notice to the Death Pool panel and any replacements must satisfy the eligibility criteria listed in the Rules. FAQ 9 - When does it end?
The 2007 competition finishes at one minute before midnight on New Year's Eve 2007. The 2008 competition starts two minutes later...
